Localizing HerVenture for women entrepreneurs
HerVenture is the Foundation’s award-winning mobile learning app. It gives women entrepreneurs essential business training on the go, through bite-sized lessons, swipe-able cards and quizzes that fit around busy schedules. The app covers topics like launching a business, accessing finance, digital marketing, e-commerce and mobile money.
To reach women in new regions, the Foundation needed HerVenture available in more languages. We partnered with them to translate and localize the app’s learning content and website into Arabic, Spanish (Latin America) and Kiswahili.
Our work for the Cherie Blair Foundation includes:
1. Translating all HerVenture learning tracks, from launching a business to mobile money and digital marketing
2. Localizing in-app content such as lesson cards, quizzes and interactive activities
3. Translating website content
App localization comes with unique constraints. Every lesson card holds only a small amount of text, so translations had to stay concise while remaining clear and natural.
The audience shaped every choice we made. HerVenture serves women entrepreneurs, many in rural communities. The language had to be simple, warm and locally relevant rather than formal or academic. We worked with native female linguists in each market and incorporated feedback from the Foundation’s in-country partners to make sure the content felt natural in every language.
“We had an excellent experience working with Milestone Localisation on the translation of HerVenture, a digital learning app that supports women entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses, into Arabic, Spanish and Kiswahili. Their team was highly professional throughout the process, delivering high-quality translations with a quick turnaround and clear, consistent communication at every stage.
What stood out most was their willingness to accommodate our specific needs and special requests. As an NGO, it was essential that the content be not only accurately translated but also highly localised for the unique cultural and linguistic contexts of our target audiences. Milestone Localisation demonstrated a strong understanding of these requirements and worked closely with us to ensure the language felt natural, relevant and appropriate in each market.
Their flexibility, responsiveness and commitment to quality made them a trusted partner. We would highly recommend Milestone Localisation to any organisation seeking professional localisation services, particularly those working in development, education or other sectors where context-specific, culturally relevant language is essential.”
